Presidential decree No. 216/22 approving the national strategy for climate change 2022-2035
This Presidential Decree approves the National Strategy for Climate Change (ENAC 2022-2035). This Strategy, aiming to respond to the challenges posed by the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, establishes the vision of Angolan national policy on the horizon 2035, taking into account the need to articulate Angolan policy in terms of mitigation and adaptation to the impacts of climate change. The ENAC 2022-2035 arises from the need to articulate objectives, instruments and institutions in the pursuit of sustained economic growth and sustainable development. ENAC 2022-2035 succeeds the first Strategy for Climate Change 2007-2012 «National Strategy for the Implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol», Ministry of Urbanism and Environment, 2007, due to the growth economy in the last decade and the changing international and national climate landscape.
Thus, ENAC intends to respond to the challenges posed by the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, and establish the vision of Angolan national policy on the horizon 2035, taking into account the need to articulate Angolan policy in terms of mitigation. and adapting to the impacts of climate change. The National Commission on Climate Change and Biodiversity should be a medium where the exchange of ideas has a central value, recognizing the enriching role it can play for the country. This secretariat should promote public discussion, on its own initiative, on issues related to climate change, as well as carry out information actions on climate change, both for the general public and in schools, also bearing in mind the promotion of gender equality in public participation.
