Mission
Yellow Dot is a Sri Lankan community-based initiative focused on collective care, safe spaces, and advocacy for marginalized groups, including persons with disabilities. They work on grassroots projects, such as supporting women entrepreneurs and providing disaster relief to families with disabilities in the Northern, Central, and Uva provinces.
Yellowdot Community in Sri Lanka contributes to disaster risk reduction by strengthening social resilience and inclusive community networks, particularly among marginalized groups. The initiative works with women, persons with disabilities, and queer youth to build support systems that can help communities better cope with crises and disasters. Through community consultations and participatory research, Yellowdot gathers insights on local vulnerabilities and barriers faced by these groups, helping to inform more inclusive solutions and advocacy efforts. The organization also runs psychosocial wellbeing programmes, including peer support groups, discussions, and safe community spaces that help maintain social cohesion and emotional resilience in times of stress. In addition, Yellowdot supports livelihood and skills development initiatives, such as entrepreneurship training for women, which helps strengthen economic resilience at the community level. By focusing on inclusion, wellbeing, and local capacity-building, Yellowdot’s work addresses underlying social vulnerabilities and contributes to more equitable and resilient communities in Sri Lanka.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
