Mission
Waatea News is home to Radio Waatea - an Auckland-based Māori radio station that provides an extensive bi-lingual broadcast to its listeners. Based at Ngā Whare Waatea marae in Mangere, it is located in the middle of the biggest Māori population in Aotearoa.
UMA Broadcasting recognizes its main imperative to foster amongst Māori and non-Māori positive attitudes towards, and accurate beliefs about the Māori language and living culture, so that Māori-English bilingualism becomes a valued part of New Zealand society.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
