Mission
The Tyrol State Government implements a comprehensive approach to disaster risk reduction through its Department of Public Safety, which coordinates prevention, preparedness, and response efforts across natural and technological hazards. Guided by the Tyrolean Disaster Management Act, the region's framework emphasizes early warning, community awareness, and interagency coordination. The Landes-Warn- und Lagezentrum Tirol (LWLZ) serves as the central hub for hazard monitoring and emergency management, ensuring timely communication during events such as floods, avalanches, storms, and heatwaves.
In response to the increasing frequency of extreme heat, Tyrol launched its Heat Protection Plan in collaboration with Tirol Kliniken in 2023. The initiative provides practical guidance to protect vulnerable groups, including older adults, children, and people with chronic illnesses, while promoting preventive measures and institutional readiness across hospitals, schools, and care facilities. Together, these efforts reflect Tyrol's commitment to safeguarding public health and resilience through proactive disaster risk governance and public engagement.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
