Mission
National Indigenous Disaster Resilience (NIDR) is a research program within the Faculty of Arts, Monash University. Established in 2022, NIDR is Australia’s only Indigenous-led, nationally focused program investigating how major disasters affect Indigenous people, communities and organizations. NIDR champions Indigenous leadership in disaster resilience through research and engagement with Indigenous communities across Australia.
They find out what happens when Indigenous groups are impacted by major disasters.
This supports them to:
- Advocate for a fairer resilience system
- Foster relationships between Indigenous groups and the emergency management and resilience sector
- Create new knowledge
They achieve this by:
- Conducting research
- Holding events
- Producing resources
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
