Mission
The Milken Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank dedicated to accelerating measurable progress toward meaningful lives for individuals and communities worldwide. It brings together rigorous research, innovative resourcing, and multi-sector partnerships to tackle critical global challenges in areas such as financial, physical, mental, and environmental health. Through evidence-based policy analysis, convenings of leaders across sectors, and actionable blueprints for change, the Institute works to create scalable solutions that improve prosperity, widen access to capital and opportunities, and strengthen systems that support human well-being
The Institute conducts research and promotes strategies to help communities, systems, and ecosystems better adapt to and recover from climate impacts and extreme weather (which are core components of disaster risk reduction). This includes vulnerability assessments and adaptive policy recommendations aimed at enhancing resilience to climate-related disruptions.
Milken hosts and participates in panels, conferences, and symposia that bring together investors, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss resilience-focused solutions, such as strategic framing of climate resilience and community-oriented partnerships. These discussions often feed into broader dialogues on risk reduction and adaptation.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
