Lund University was founded in 1666 and has during its around 350 years of research, education and innovation evolved to one of the largest and strongest full research universities in Northern Europe. Lund University has today around 47 000 students and is consistently ranked among the top one hundred universities in the world. Although there was a university college in Lund already in 1438, Lund University was established after the peace treaty that seceded the provinces in what is now southern Sweden from Denmark.
The university has its Lund University International Master's Programme in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science (LUMES), which includes Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.
The university is currently developing an MSc in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation that will be launched in the future.
Lund University also developed and ran a Master of Disaster Management for four years together and University of Copenhagen. The programme is since 2012 run by University of Copenhagen.
