Mission
Island Innovation is an expert consultancy specialising in innovation, sustainability and development for islands.
Island governments, institutions, and partners often share similar priorities including energy transition, climate resilience, sustainable tourism, and ocean management. Progress is often slowed because the knowledge, finance, authority, and partnerships needed to move forward sit in different places and rarely align at the same time. Island Innovation helps bridge this gap by convening decision-makers, facilitating peer exchange across island regions, and supporting partnerships that translate dialogue into implementation.
Island Innovation's work operates through three core areas:
- Institutional Events: Strategic convenings such as the Global Sustainable Islands Summit (GSIS) bring together decision-makers, practitioners, and partners to exchange experience and advance collaboration.
- Strategic Communications: Narratives, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge exchange strengthen collaboration and visibility across island regions.
- Capacity Building & Innovation Programmes: Learning initiatives and practitioner networks strengthen capabilities and support island-led development pathways.
Working across small island developing states (SIDS) and sub-national island jurisdictions (SNIJs), Island Innovation supports informed island-led action and long-term development pathways.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
