Shortly after Bam's extreme earthquake in 2003, the first International Conference on Integrated Natural Disaster Management (INDM) was held in Tehran in February 2005 in close cooperation between private sector, government, and non-profit stakeholders. The first conference focused on lessons learned from the Bam earthquake, creating a comprehensive view of disaster management, exchange of ideas, transferring of technologies and disaster risk reduction strategies. These aims were adhered to until the fourth INDM Conference in 2009.
Over the years, many international and national speakers have presented the latest findings, foundations and future strategies in the field of disaster management at these conferences. Many researchers, managers and specialists have also developed and shared their scientific communication in the field of disaster risk reduction.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
