Disasters are tangible proof that something needs to change in urban settings and the built environment. But the aftermath of a disaster is also a time to reflect on tradition, history, identity, memory, and cultural meaning.
The 9th International i-Rec Conference will be hosted at the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA from 5-7 June 2019 by the recently established Florida Institute for Built Environment Resilience (FIBER).

The conference aims to consolidate knowledge and encourage future research in five interlinked areas related to post-disaster reconstruction and risk reduction that are particularly relevant to enhancing societal resilience to disasters.
Post disaster reconstruction allows people to reconsider safer planning, building design and technology to improve the resilience of communities from the next natural disaster that will inevitably strike in the future.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
