Mission
The Special Department for Disaster Management and Defence ensures that the Styrian emergency response organisations are provided with the equipment, training and legal framework they need to perform their invaluable tasks for the safety and security. The Alarm Centre of the State of Styria acts as the emergency and dispatch control centre for all small-scale emergency organisations and warns the public in the case of an emergency. The coordination centres for emergency and disaster medicine and crisis intervention ensure basic emergency medical care for the people of Styria as well as acute psychosocial care for victims and relatives in crisis situations.
The state addresses risks such as floods, landslides, storms, heatwaves, and winter hazards through integrated civil protection and disaster management systems, combining early warning, emergency planning, and coordinated response across state and municipal levels. DRR efforts are supported by hazard and risk mapping, land-use and spatial planning measures, and investments in protective infrastructure, particularly for flood and slope stability management.

Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
