Football for Future
Mission
Football For Future’s mission is to harness football’s cultural power to tackle the climate crisis by embedding sustainability at the heart of the game. The organisation brings together players, clubs, leagues, and fans to drive collective climate action—ensuring that football not only adapts to environmental risks but also leads the global response to climate change.
Football For Future undertakes Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities aimed at strengthening the resilience of football infrastructure and communities to climate-related hazards. Through climate risk assessments of stadiums and grassroots pitches, the organisation identifies exposure to extreme heat, flooding, and drought, supporting evidence-based adaptation planning. It delivers sustainability training, educational workshops, and awareness campaigns that translate climate science into operational guidance for clubs, leagues, and players. In parallel, Football For Future mobilises athletes and fan communities to advocate for climate preparedness and environmental stewardship. By integrating risk knowledge, capacity-building, and stakeholder collaboration, its DRR activities contribute to safeguarding football ecosystems while promoting broader climate resilience.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
