Mission
Emergencia Animal's mission is to integrate animal welfare into disaster risk reduction frameworks across Spain, ensuring that families, animal shelters, and communities can effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies without leaving any animal behind.
Emergencia Animal believes that animal welfare is human welfare—protecting animals during disasters protects the families who love them and strengthens community resilience. Our guiding principle: "Nadie se queda atrás" (No one is left behind).
- Emergency preparedness tools (PREPARA): Development of digital planning resources, including household emergency cards, species-specific evacuation kits for 8 animal types, family emergency plans, and multi-hazard checklists covering 13 emergency scenarios.
- Education and training (APRENDE): Delivery of FEMA-adapted online certified courses in Spanish for families, animal shelters, and emergency volunteers, building local capacity for animal-inclusive disaster response.
- Volunteer coordination (CONECTA): Real-time platform connecting trained volunteers with animal shelters during emergencies through geolocation, alerts, and direct messaging for rapid response.
- Awareness-raising: Production of educational guides, before-during-after emergency protocols, and species-specific advice to increase community understanding of animal-inclusive DRR.
- Multi-stakeholder engagement: Collaboration with animal shelters, sanctuaries, veterinary services, and civil protection agencies to mainstream animal welfare in local emergency planning.

Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
