En Costa Rica, la Comisión Nacional de Emergencias reveló que la institución aprovisionó ¢4.000 millones para atender los posibles daños provocados por la presencia de El Niño, que afectará con sequía e inundaciones en el primer semestre de 2019. El suministro de agua, la adecuada atención en problemas de salud y el apoyo al sector agropecuario son la prioridad.
El Gobierno de la República anunció un Plan de Contingencia interinstitucional para mitigar los efectos del fenómeno de El Niño Oscilación Sur que afectará a gran parte del territorio nacional. Paralelamente, el gobierno estableció el Comité Permanente de Atención, integrado por 12 instituciones bajo la coordinación de la Comisión Nacional de Emergencias

Un plan de prevención de inundaciones en 79 comunidades de Matina, Guácimo, Siquirres y Pococí fue presentado. En una primera etapa contempla construcción de diques, ampliación de cauces y nuevos canales como corredores naturales para inundación. Para una segunda etapa constructiva, se están determinando proyectos para los ríos Jiménez, Parismina y Reventazón.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
