Mission
COPE Disaster Champions is a global initiative providing free, multilingual resources to help children and families prepare for disasters. Designed for children aged 6-12, COPE empowers the next generation with critical disaster risk reduction (DRR) knowledge through engaging storytelling and accessible educational tools.
COPE works closely with partners, including UNDRR, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and UNICEF, to develop a growing collection of 12 illustrated storybooks. These books cover a wide range of hazards-such as floods, heatwaves, cyclones, and earthquakes-and are available in the six official UN languages to ensure global reach and inclusivity.
COPE's content goes beyond books: we also produce educational jingles and are currently developing an interactive digital platform to help children learn about DRR in a fun and meaningful way.
To date, COPE has reached millions of children worldwide. COPE continuously seeks new ways to amplify youth engagement and build resilience through education, creativity, and collaboration.
Please don't hesitate to contact COPE if you want to know more!
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
