Registrations are open for the inaugural international meeting of the Asia Pacific community for Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management (ISCRAM), in Te Papa, Wellington, New Zealand, on 5-7 November 2018.
A new study shows that even if global warming stabilised at 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, extreme El Niño events are still projected to increase. This projection was found using research models that applied the IPCC's lowest emissions scenario, which requires negative emissions late in the century.
This handbook makes use of risk-based knowledge to develop structural design approaches for enhanced resilience performance of structures subjected to extreme events of winds, earthquakes and floods.
Following Cyclone Debbie, a natural disaster was declared in five major centres in northern New South Wales.CSIRO’s Dr Chi-Hsiang Wang and colleagues have been researching the cost implications of extreme weather events but with a focus at the other end – predicting the likely cost before the storms.
Mainstreaming climate change into decision-making to achieve ‘climate compatible development’ is a pressing challenge.
This paper calls for a systematic approach to collecting family violence data after a disaster. Indeed, the lack of data impedes family violence prevention and response efforts.
This material is an animation and toolkit which raises awareness of the science and impacts of El Niño and La Niña and encourages Pacific Islanders to take early action in preparing for these extreme events.
Voluntary Commitments
The organization has no registered commitments.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
