Mission
CRB is an independent national non-governmental organization committed to delivering effective humanitarian assistance and sustainable development interventions to vulnerable communities across Yemen. The organization works to alleviate the suffering of conflict-affected, poor, and displaced populations while strengthening community resilience and supporting long-term recovery in accordance with international humanitarian principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). CRB is a member of the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR). CRB contributes to disaster risk reduction by addressing both immediate humanitarian needs and the underlying drivers of vulnerability. Through integrated programming, the organization reduces exposure to hazards, strengthens coping capacities, and supports safer living conditions for displaced and host communities.
CRB’s approach prioritizes risk-informed programming, strengthening community resilience, and reducing vulnerability to shocks, including conflict, displacement, floods, and climate-related hazards. The organization aligns its interventions with national priorities and global frameworks, including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
CRB operates primarily in Yemen, with a strong field presence in Marib, Al Jawf, Shabwah Lahj, Abyan, Hadramout and other high-risk, displacement-affected areas. These locations are characterized by overlapping risks, including conflict, climate-induced hazards such as floods and drought, and limited access to basic services, works closely with local authorities, communities, UN agencies, international and national NGOs, and donors to ensure coordinated, accountable, and high-quality programming that complies with the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), Sphere Standards, and humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
CRB prioritizes areas with high vulnerability and exposure to multi-hazard risks, ensuring that interventions contribute to both immediate relief and longer-term risk reduction.
Key DRR-related activities include:
1.Community-based risk assessments and vulnerability mapping in displacement-affected areas
2. Strengthening early warning awareness and preparedness at community level
3. Climate-resilient WASH infrastructure and water resource management
4. Cash-based assistance to reduce negative coping strategies and enhance household resilience
5. Capacity building of local institutions and community committees on preparedness and response
6. Mainstreaming protection and accountability to reduce social vulnerability and exposure to risk

Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
