Why Taiwan is so well-prepared for super-typhoons

Typhoon Nepartak, one of the most powerful ever to hit Taiwan, made landfall at about 6 p.m. eastern time last Thursday. But for a storm of such power, the death toll was surprisingly low, though dozens more were injured. Taiwan has a long history with typhoons. But since the deadly storm of 2009, Taiwan tends to survive even the biggest storms relatively unscathed.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
