Architects support communities before and after disaster; creating more resilient, sustainable, equitable and healthy places and spaces
This course provides an overview of the four phases of disaster management, and the critical role architects play in assisting local efforts to respond, recover, prepare for, and mitigate the risk of disaster events in their communities.
An earthquake-resistant house prototype from the Chinese University of Hong Kong has been named the World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival. The rammed-earth construction technique has a strengthened structural stability through steel rebars and concrete belts. The structure is based on local materials, eliminating long-distance material transport.
This workshop offers participants the opportunity to compare and to apply leading-edge solutions that will help clients, communities, and regions manage their natural resources during change.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
