Mission
The American College of Cardiology (ACC) envisions a world where science, knowledge and innovation optimize cardiovascular care and outcomes. It believes in the power of community. With more than 60,000 members worldwide spanning the entire cardiovascular team, it serves as the professional home for clinicians and researchers seeking the latest science, research and education. United with its members, chapters and global cardiovascular partners, the organization is focused on transforming cardiovascular care and improving heart health for all.
The organization contributes to disaster risk reduction through a public health and clinical systems lens, focusing on reducing cardiovascular risks before, during, and after disasters. Rather than managing disasters directly, the ACC works to ensure that heart health is protected within emergency contexts and that health systems remain resilient.
The ACC is also active in education and training, equipping cardiologists and healthcare providers with the knowledge to prepare for emergencies. Through webinars, publications, and professional networks, it raises awareness of how disasters exacerbate cardiovascular risks, including stress-induced cardiac events, disrupted care, and environmental exposures like heat or smoke.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
