Mission
The 19th is an independent, nonprofit newsroom covering the intersection of gender, politics, policy and power. The mission of The 19th is to give women and LGBTQ+ people - especially those excluded from the promise of the 19th Amendment by their gender, race, ethnicity, class or disability - the information they need to fully participate in American democracy. The aim is to help them play a more equal and active role in shaping the future of American politics, policymaking and power structures.
At The 19th, the organization believes that one can't fully understand politics, policy or power without looking through the lens of gender and race. Their journalism aims to hold leaders accountable when rights are threatened, shine a light on inequities, and tell the human stories behind the headlines.
The 19th's reporting centers voices that have long been missing from mainstream news. The asterisk in their logo is for the women and LGBTQ+ people whose experiences complete the American story.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
