Sri Lanka: Insurance and more for disaster preparedness

The Disaster Management Ministry of Sri Lanka has announced a number of measures to lessen the impacts of natural disasters in 2013. One of such measures is the Ministry's plan to introduce an insurance scheme to protect homes in identrified disaster prone areas. In addition, demonstrations will be offered on earthquake resistant building techniques and a new radar will be used to improve the prediction capability of the Meterology Department.
