Press release

Washington DC
– Rebuilding Together is now a member of National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), joining member organizations and partners such as FEMA, American Red Cross and United Way.

National VOAD is a nationwide coalition of organizations that work together in all phases of disaster – preparedness, response, relief, recovery, and mitigation – to help communities prepare for and recover from disaster. Rebuilding Together has joined other industry experts dedicated to VOAD’s four C’s – communication, coordination, cooperation and collaboration. As an official member, Rebuilding Together is better positioned to effectively work with fellow organizations and volunteers in order to provide the best possible recovery work.

Rebuilding Together focuses on the recovery and rebuilding process that allows families to return to a restored and safe home, a practice reflected in their core mission. After a natural disaster, Rebuilding Together works with its local affiliate to assess the community’s recovery needs and partners with other organizations that organize on-the-ground infrastructure and volunteer mobilization.

Rebuilding Together has instituted their disaster recovery efforts throughout the country to rebuild the lives and homes of families through core mission work. In November 2011, Rebuilding Together celebrated a milestone in its ongoing disaster recovery efforts with the completion of the 1000th home rebuilt along the Gulf Coast post Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

“Rebuilding Together is proud to be part of VOAD, and collaborate closely with other esteemed organizations who work to prepare for and respond to the expected and unexpected,” said Gary A. Officer, president and CEO of Rebuilding Together. “Rebuilding Together is dedicated to providing safe and healthy homes for our homeowners’ in-need, and our disaster recovery work is an incredibly impactful way to carry out our mission.”

Rebuilding Together sees Disaster Recovery as a part of the critical community revitalization work that Rebuilding Together accomplishes through several focus areas. The strength of partnerships with organizations that provide new construction, block grants, financial education, and foreclosure prevention, combined with modification and rehab services, define full community stabilization.
