UN, World Bank to help Southeast Asia reduce disasters
It became public last week that United Nations, the World Bank and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) announced a joint cooperation during the Bali Disaster Risk Reduction Forum.
Citing the 2009 Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction: Risk and Poverty in a Changing Climate, the Alertnet website reports that the agreement, which is intended to last 5 years, will have the guidance of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) on DRR, and technical assistance from the World Bank in developing DRR frameworks. The ASEAN will cooperate in supporting and coordinating, through their secretariat.
