UN-ESCAP Tsunami Regional Trust Fund: 6th round of funding launched
The sixth round of funding for the Tsunami Regional Trust Fund is now open for receipt of proposals which should be sent to ESCAP by 15 August 2010.
The Tsunami Regional Trust Fund was established by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in 2005. The destructive Indian Ocean Tsunami that occurred in December 2004 stressed the need for an effective regional disaster preparedness mechanism in the Indian Ocean and South-East Asia. The Trust Fund contributes to narrowing the capacity gaps in the region and ensures the development of an integrated regional early warning system.
The application form and other materials can be accessed on ESCAP's web site (below). The Fund supports end-to-end early warning of tsunamis and related hazards in ESCAP Indian Ocean and South-East Asian countries (from Iran to Timor-Leste). Government agencies, intergovernmental organizations and other non-profit organizations can apply to the Fund.
