Taiwan: Legislature suggests local disaster relief, prevention alliances

After Typhoon Morakot hit southern Taiwan in August, Legislative Yuan analyses the deficiencies of Taiwan's disaster relief mechanism and takes stock of the experience of Japan in disaster prevention.

After a tour of Japan, Tawain officials suggested enhancements in disaster prevention and response such as: disaster simulation drills, joint cooperation between local residents and the administration to mitigate the impact of disasters, inter-agency coordination, and investigations after each major disaster to pass on management and experience.
