PIA press release by Margie L. Gadian
San Jose, Antique - The best practices of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of San Jose de Buenavista were shared to social workers all over the province of Antique when they had their annual management conference recently.
Engr. Alex Crespo, MDRRMO of San Jose, said that San Jose de Buenavista (SJdB) worked on integrating DRRM into other into other programs in the LGU like the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) for persons with disability (PWD's) which contributed to the decrease in vulnerability of this group as well as improve their economic resiliency. This is aside from other non-structural and structural measures and activities in all phases of DRRM.
This knowledge sharing is in line with the goal of the Social Welfare and Development group to alleviate poverty not only thru integration of poverty reduction programs with other sectoral issues such as environmental management and gender but to disaster risk reduction and managment activities as well.
SJdB's Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council was awarded in 2010 as the Best MDCC for the 1st-3rd Class Municipality category in the whole country.
The conference is an annual gathering of all social workers both from the provincial and municipal level to discuss and evaluate programs, projects and activities being implemented and how it affects the lives of the people especially the vulnerable sector. (SJdB/ JCM/MLG/ PIA6- Antique)
