PIA press release by Jaime S. Cabag, Jr.

Iloilo City
– Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Director Dr. Renato Solidum, Jr. will brief the officers and members of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) on earthquakes and earthquake preparedness during the council’s regular meeting here today, April 8.

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director and RDRRMC Chair Rosario T. Cabrera said following the series of devastating earthquakes that occurred in the Asia-Pacific region during the past weeks, it is high time the council had updates on this natural hazard and contingencies that should be adopted for the protection of the people.

This is also in view of the fact that there are several earthquake generators in the region that can pose hazards anytime, said Cabrera.

The briefing will be a valuable input to the measures and contingencies adopted by the council as part of its disaster preparedness program in the region, added Cabrera, (JCM/JSC/PIA6)
