Philippines: Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act makes civil defense proactive

According to a PIA press release, the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, approved by the President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on May 27, capacitates the Office of Civil Defence (OCD) to become proactive rather than reactive, with a funding support of P1 billion to be used in disaster risk reduction, mitigation, prevention and preparedness activities. Its Regional Director, Adriano D. Fuego, talks about the upcoming establishment of Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) in every province, city and municipality and urges the public to be always mindful during rainy season in order to prevent the loss of property and life.
