National Consultation Workshop on the integration of biological hazards in Lebanon’s Disaster Risk Reduction strategy

National Consultation Workshop in Lebanon

11 October 2021 – UNDRR ROAS, in coordination with the Disaster Risk Management Unit (DRMU), organized a national consultation workshop in Lebanon at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), under the framework of UNDRR and the Government of Japan Regional Initiative “Build Back Better from COVID-19 in the Arab States: Applying the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and Enabling a Prevention -Oriented and Risk-Informed Approach.”

The consultation workshop came to validate the newly developed Disaster Risk Reduction governance structure for the DRR national platform in Lebanon, proposed by UNDRR, as well as to explore practical approaches for the integration of biological hazards in the DRR national strategy for Lebanon.

The workshop was attended by the Head of the DRMU Zahi Chahine, the Head of the CBRN Dr. Bilal Nsouli, UNDRR International Coordinator, Heba Al-Hariry, the Head of DRM at the Lebanese Red Cross Kassem Chaalan, the Head of Communicable Diseases Unit at the Ministry of Public Health Dr. Atika Berry, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Public Works and Transport, and the union of municipalities.
