In this article for the Jakarta Post, Elly Burhaini Faizal highlights that preparedness and mitigation efforts developed by both central and local governments have systematically ignored women’s needs in initiatives to heighten resilience during disasters. "Frankly speaking, even at the national level, we haven’t seen a concerted effort to integrate gender perspective in disaster-risk reduction policies, whereas it is very important to reduce women’s vulnerability during crises," said Edi Hayat, Women Empowerment Officer of Oxfam’s Building Resilience Program.
