The establishment of the Secretariat of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the NDRI

In a decree issued by the head of the National Disaster Management Organization and the secretary of the Supreme Council for Disaster Management, the Secretariat of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Islamic Republic of Iran was established in the Natural Disasters Research Institute (NDRI) and Dr. Garakani, the head of the NDRI, was appointed as the secretary of this platform.

The UN member states have requested the establishment of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Resolution 1999/63 of the Social and Economic Council and Resolution 58/21 of the Un General Assembly.

One of the objectives of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is to promote intersectional cooperation and coordination for the sustainability of activities and measures to reduce the risk of hazards and to provide advisory opinions to reduce the risks of natural hazards based on the country's disaster management law and its following documents and programs.
