Call for chapters: "Geohazards and Disaster Risk Reduction: Multidisciplinary and Integrated Approaches"

Scope

The term “geohazard” is a widely used term for scientists, authorities and practitioners, indicating the natural processes occurring in the environment constituting a damaging event for people. The entire world’s population is exposed to geohazards in different ways and degrees.

Despite in human history geohazards causing many casualties, economic loss, damage to cultural heritage, the culture of risk prevention is not yet widespread among the world’s population. In fact, DRR activities should focus on enhancing capacities, strategies and action plans in terms of prevention and preparedness of local communities.

Therefore, this book is open to proposals that, through an integrated and multidisciplinary approach, investigate on:

  • Social vulnerability reduction;
  • Risk prevention, institutional preparedness, community resilience;
  • Risk education, communication and social perception;
  • New technologies to study geohazards;
  • Historical memory of disasters, medical geography and anthropology.

Important Dates

April 30, 2021: Book Chapter Proposal deadline;

May 15, 2021: Acceptance/Rejection Notification;

October 31, 2021: Full Chapter Submission;

December 31, 2021: Review notification;

January 31, 2022: Final version chapter submission;

March 2022: Book submission to Springer.

Submission Procedure

Interested authors should submit their proposals (max 500 words) by April 30, 2021, explaining the main topic and the objectives of the chapter.

The manuscript proposals (Word or PDF) must be sent to the following e-mail addresses: sebastiano.damico@um.edu.mt, fr.depascale@gmail.com.

Acceptance/Rejection notification will be sent to the authors by May 15, 2021. After the acceptance notification, authors should submit full chapters by October 31, 2021.

All submissions will be reviewed in a double-blind manner.
