The National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) presented the ‘Brunei Darussalam Strategic National Action Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction’ (SNAP) to various government agencies yesterday. The document outlines disaster prevention measures for the community, reports Borneo Bulletin.

“The world is currently facing not only continuous challenges brought about by globalisation but also the impact of climate change that frequently brings natural disasters such as flooding, landslides, strong wind and drought, among others.” Brunei's Deputy Minister of Home Affairs said.

He also added that “We must be prepared for the possibility that disasters can strike at anytime. Therefore, rigorous preparation and planning with cooperation from various parties is important to achieve the objective in effective and holistic disaster risk reduction.”

The document's recommendations include research on law and regulation relating to disaster risk reduction, assessment of comprehensive training needs, establishing early warning system, information and database coordination, public survey on disaster risk reduction understanding and strengthening the relation between agencies.
