Albania strengthens capacities for disaster loss and damage data through DELTA Resilience training
Albania is strengthening its capacities to collect, manage, analyse and use disaster loss and damage data through the DELTA Resilience platform, with a technical training held in Tirana on 17 September 2026.
The training was organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in cooperation CIMA Research Foundation and National Agency for Civil Protection (NACP), under the AICS-funded project “Strengthening Transboundary Collaboration and Capacities on Disaster Risk Reduction and Early Warning Systems in the Western Balkans.”
The training brought together representatives from National agency for Civil Protection and a wide range of national institutions , including the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Economy and Innovation, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Ministry of Environment, the Institute of Geosciences, the State Police, the National Agency of Forests and the National Agency of Protected Areas.
Participants took part in practical sessions on DELTA Resilience, exploring its key functions for recording hazardous events, disasters, losses and damages, as well as analysing and visualising data.
The activity forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Albania’s disaster risk knowledge and data systems, including the transition and consolidation of existing disaster loss data from DesInventar into DELTA Resilience.
By strengthening the availability and use of reliable disaster loss data, Albania can support more informed disaster risk reduction planning, investment and decision-making, while strengthening coordination and information-sharing across institutions.
The initiative contributes to the wider AICS-funded regional project supporting Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia in strengthening disaster risk reduction, early warning systems and transboundary cooperation across the Western Balkans.
