A WaterAid analysis shows that areas in northern and central India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, southern Madagascar and southern Mozambique are facing acute water scarcity, threatening the lives and livelihoods of millions. The world's poorest regions will feel the strongest impact, as large numbers of their residents have already struggled to access a safe source of water.

As climate change takes hold in Pakistan, it is bringing worryingly rapid temperature increases that threaten lives and harvests, and are driving up water and power use. Soil moisture is declining, raising demand for irrigation water from rivers or wells, putting additional pressure on Pakistan's already fast-declining groundwater stores and river flows.
