Istanbul seismic risk mitigation conference

Organized by the Turkish Republic Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency and the Governorship of Istanbul with the support of the World Bank Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), the conference will be held in Grand Cevahir Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey, from 8 to 10 December 2009.

The Conference will explore national/international linkages in the broader area of seismic risk mitigation, i.e., (a) what has been achieved in Turkey, specifically in Istanbul so far in seismic risk mitigation after the earthquakes of 1999, (b) how this and similar experiences from other earthquake-prone countries can be shared and disseminated, (c) how consensus among various stakeholders can be built for future steps in seismic risk mitigation in urban areas.
