World summit of legislators- at Rio + 20

Rio+20 Side Event: Organized by GLOBE International and GLOBE Brazil, this summit is organized to (1) establish a mechanism at the international level to monitor the implementation of commitments by governments made at Rio+20, (2) provide a platform to advance and share best legislative practice as well as to promote a mechanism within international processes that can recognise national legislation and (3) examine how the value of natural capital can integrated within national economic frameworks to enable legislators to better monitor the stock and use of natural capital. Based on these objectives, participating legislators will be asked to agree a Rio+20 Legislators’ Protocol. A UNISDR representative will be attending one of the sessions to discuss how international agencies can better support the work of legislators.
