This conference is part of the III Conference Cycle of the Postgraduate Program in “Investigation and Security in Catastrophes, Crises and Accidents” at Miguel Torga Higher Institute (Portugal) and addresses the growing risks associated with wildfires in the context of climate change, focusing on their origins, meteorological drivers, and mitigation strategies.

The event aims to contribute to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) by improving understanding of extreme events, enhancing preparedness, and supporting informed decision-making in the fields of civil protection and environmental risk management.

The conference will be led by Professor Leila Carvalho, Guest Speaker, faculty member at the University of California, Santa Barbara (USA), an internationally recognized expert in atmospheric sciences and climate variability.

The target audience includes students, academics, researchers, policymakers, civil protection professionals, and stakeholders involved in risk management and climate adaptation.

The event will take place online on April 28, 2026, at 18:00 (Lisbon time), via Zoom. The conference will be delivered in Portuguese, and automatic captions may be available via Zoom.
