Presented by our risk driver lead on urbanisation and with representatives from the Indian Institute of Human Settlements , Map Action and the Marine Ecosystems Protected Areas Trust, this webinar will discuss the context of urbanisation and our focus as a network of CSOs working on resilience building.
The second half will present a practical approach to urban resilience by sharing a tool and a project case study. Participants will learn about spatial mapping tools for urban resilience building projects, and learn from the experience of a GNDR member organisation about how to work on urban resilience and contribute to risk-informed development.

The context of urbanisation
Globally, more than 50% of the world’s population live in urban areas today and this trend is expected to continue. While in the developed world the last four decades have seen improvements in the quality of life of millions of urban dwellers, a different kind of urbanisation is unfolding in the global south. Multiple forms of poverty, growing inequalities, environmental degradation, social and economic exclusion and spatial segregation underscore the life of millions living in cities. The coronavirus pandemic has further exacerbated the effects of a long-standing urban services divide showing an urgent need to talk about risk-informed development in the context of urbanisation.
