Register Now for Upcoming Evacuation Learning Opportunity

FAC Net is hosting a two-part online learning event around the topic of community evacuation planning and preparedness. While many of our events are for network members only (join today), we have made this series available to those outside the Network who would like to participate in a series of conversations. Pre-registration is required for both parts of the series. It is not mandatory to attend both, however we do encourage it if you can!

While the webinars will be recorded, given the small-group breakout format of the Research Focus part of the series, only a portion of that recording will be available afterwards. Closed captioning will be available during the meeting.

Part 1: Practitioner Focus (September 16 – 12:30 – 2:00 pm Mountain)

Part 1: Practitioner Focus (September 16 – 12:30 – 2:00 pm Mountain)

Hear from Chris Chambers (Ashland Fire and Rescue), Nathan Garibay (Deschutes County Office of Emergency Management), and Mike Chard (Boulder County OEM) about some of the updates and work they have done around community evacuation planning and outreach in their communities.

We will hear from them in a series of short presentations and then have a panel-style question and answer period, with time for questions and discussion with the audience.

These practitioners represent just a small subset of the work being done on evacuation planning and preparedness around the country. The goal is to not share a one-size-fits-all approach, but instead to open the doors for conversation with practitioners about what they’re thinking through and why, and talk about what is working well, what is proving to be a challenge and more. Participants wanting to continue the conversation with others after this series will be invited to join the Network to access support and further dialogue and learning opportunities.

Part 2: Research Focus (September 30 – 12:30 – 2:00 pm Mountain)

Part 2: Research Focus (September 30 – 12:30 – 2:00 pm Mountain)

Wonder what some of the latest research around evacuation says? Come hear from three groups of researchers about their latest work.

Researchers will give very brief overviews of their findings and then we will launch into small-group breakout sessions. Practitioners will have the chance to directly connect with researchers and other practitioners to ask questions about their work and how they can apply lessons to their work on the ground.

Researchers:

During registration, you will have the opportunity to choose your top two breakouts. We will pre-assign you to a room ahead of the webinar. We recommend skimming their work prior to attending the webinar to get the most out of the small group format.

Please Note: This webinar is geared towards wildfire adaptation practitioners who are implementing community evacuation preparedness and planning programs. It will not be covering information on individual homeowner evacuation preparedness.
