Modular training course: Transforming Risks for Sustainable Development

The training course is designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and technical skills on how to manage programmatic risks in development context. The training course consists of three complementing modules:

Module 1: Understanding risk and resilience

Participants will learn the fundamentals of risk management and resilience and will be able to apply these concepts while designing any development project, programme, strategy, or policy. They will learn how to understand various contextual (health, DRR, poverty, etc.) and institutional (HR, IT, financial, etc.) risks and design the programme that delivers expected value.

Module 2: Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) for development organization

Participants will learn how to design an effective ERM system to continuously inform decisions within a development organization with a diverse portfolio of projects and programmes. They will learn the specifics of linking project, programme, portfolio, and corporate levels through a unified ERM system to deliver value at all levels within the organization.

Module 3: Risk Management within development projects

Participants will learn how to effectively manage risks within development projects. They will discuss various frameworks to facilitate risk identification and risk analysis within different projects, taking into account such factors as project external context, donor requirements, internal organizational priorities, etc. They will learn from the examples of different organizations: UN, national aid agencies, and others.
