In recognition of International Disaster Risk Reduction Day, InterAction's Disaster Risk Reduction working group is holding a panel discussion on "Investing in Disaster Risk Reduction: from Policy to Practical Application."

Representatives from leader organizations in this field will discuss why the international community should continue to substantially increase investment in Disasters Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA).

WHO speakers include:
David Applegate, Sr. Science Adviser for Earthquake and Geologic Hazards, United States Geological Survey (USGS) The importance of Disaster Risk Reduction from the U.S. policy level.

Margaret Arnold, Sr. Disaster Risk Management Specialist, The World Bank  The World Bank's Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives, providing a macro perspective from intergovernmental organizations.

Nan Buzard, Sr. Director, International Response and Programs, The American Red Cross Field-based Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives, providing a perspective from operational organizations implementing DRR/CCA activities in developing countries.
