The Light for Africa Association organises three activities for the 2025 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction campaign in Mozambique.

1. Cleaning of Drainage Systems and Tree/Mangrove Planting

Date: October 10, 2025

Time (Duration): 07:30 – 12:00

Format: In-person -community field activity

Specific Location: Mungassa neighborhood and Matadouro area

Expected Results:

  • Reduce flood risks during the rainy season.
  • Strengthen coastal protection and ecosystem restoration.
  • Engage local committees and INGD technicians in preventive and sustainable actions.

2. Pre-Simulation of Evacuation and Early Warnings

Date: October 11, 2025

Time (Duration): 08:00 – 12:00

Format: In-person - preparatory exercises and information dissemination

Location: Praia Nova neighborhood and nearby areas

Expected Results:

  • Test evacuation routes and meeting points before the main simulation.
  • Raise awareness among families and the community about alerts and preventive measures.
  • Adjust evacuation plans based on feedback from local committees and INGD technicians.

3. Evacuation and Disaster Response Simulation

Date: October 13, 2025

Time (Duration): 08:00 – 12:30

Format: In-person and participatory – full simulation

Location: Praia Nova neighborhood and nearby areas

Expected Results:

  • Assess the real response capacity of the community and institutions.
  • Test the coordination of local disaster risk management committees and INGD technicians.
  • Train families and community leaders in evacuation practices and emergency response
