Our knowledge of natural hazards is steadily growing as science and technology develop rapidly, yet disasters continue to devastate people’s lives and the resources they depend on. IRDR Conference 2011 will provide a platform from which to launch trans-disciplinary research alliances aimed at in-depth, practical disaster risk reduction studies, in order to provide answers to questions such as:
- Are we focusing on the most important problems?
- Are we digging deep enough to uncover the root causes of disasters?
- Are people actually making decisions based on our findings?
