Harnessing collective knowledge for cultural heritage protection: the contribution of EU-funded projects in addressing growing multiple risks

Cultural Heritage at risk: Addressing new challenges trough shared technical and operational capacities.

PROCULTHER-NET 2 is organising this international workshop, in which selected speakers will be invited to lead three sessions that will serve as a platform for:

1. Pooling extra-project practices that can enhance dialogue within the community dedicated to the protection of cultural heritage at risk
2. Creating effective connections between UCPM and EU entities active in various fields related to cultural heritage and disaster risk management, including policymakers, decision-makers, practitioners, and researchers.

The first session will focus on strategic frameworks for the protection of cultural heritage. National and international stakeholders from both the cultural and disaster risk management sectors will take part in the discussion, which will explore the role of communities in safeguarding both tangible and intangible heritage, the European strategy for future research pathways, and cross-sector cooperation to address the increasing risks posed by climate change. The session will also highlight key lessons learned by civil protection authorities from UCPM Countries in strengthening national capacities for cultural heritage protection, including in complex crisis contexts.

The second session will be dedicated to innovation and tools for integrating cultural heritage protection into risk management frameworks. Experts from civil protection authorities and academia will present tools and methods developed through disaster risk management initiatives and scientific research programs, with the aim of exploring the potential for a shared, cross-cutting approach that could lead to more effective emergency management.

The third and final session will focus on preparedness, capacity building and training, highlighting experiences involving both professionals and the general public. In addition to sharing insights from exercises and training activities carried out through various cross-border, national, and local initiatives across Europe, the panel will explore the potential of early warning systems and virtual reality tools for protecting cultural heritage at risk.

Only registered participants will be allowed to contribute to the open discussion that will conclude the roundtables envisaged after each of the three sessions.
