About
LLMs like ChatGPT are popping up everywhere — but can they really help with climate risk and adaptation?
Prof. Rob Wilby (Loughborough University) will show how AI performs across case studies from Ghana, Bangladesh and the UK, where it helps, where it struggles, and why using an ensemble of outputs matters. He’ll also share a practical checklist for using LLMs responsibly in adaptation planning.
Speakers
Professor Rob Wilby, Loughborough University
Rob Wilby is a Professor of Hydroclimatic Modelling in the Department of Geography and Environment at Loughborough University. He is also a self-employed researcher-practitioner. His work focuses on managing climate risks to freshwater systems and urban environments. He co-developed the Statistical DownScaling Model (SDSM) – a public domain scenario tool that has been used for climate impact assessments globally. Recent projects include climate risk and adaptation assessments for agriculture, water resources, flooding, air quality, and urban heat stress. This work has taken him to Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Ghana, Laos, Mongolia, the Philippines, and Serbia.
