This webinar will explore the role of Nature-Based Solutions in reducing coastal disaster risk and supporting long-term coastal resilience. Rather than focusing on a single ecosystem, the session will introduce different coastal and marine ecosystems and examine how they can contribute to reducing the impacts of coastal hazards.

Selected examples and case studies will be used to illustrate their potential role in disaster risk reduction.

The session will also discuss the limitations and challenges of Nature-Based Solutions. Natural ecosystems cannot provide the same level of protection in every location or under every hazard condition, and their effectiveness depends on appropriate management, conservation, and long-term planning. In some settings, combining Nature-Based Solutions with conventional engineering measures may provide a more practical approach to coastal protection.

By bringing together perspectives on coastal hazards, ecosystems, risk reduction, and resilience, the webinar aims to encourage greater consideration of Nature-Based Solutions in coastal disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation planning.
