UNESCO Disaster Risk Reduction Unit is recruiting an intern to support the work of the UNESCO's Disaster Risk Reduction Unit and contribute to the development, implementation, and administration of the Unit's initiatives and projects.

The intern will acquire experience in how UNESCO's advocacy works by delivering effective and engaging communication materials to a range of stakeholders. At the same time, the intern will broaden his/her knowledge of DRR and other domains in which UNESCO is engaged by interacting with programme specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the draft of effective communication strategies to support SC/DRR Team's goals.
  • Draft key advocacy materials and update SC/DRR's website and social media presence.
  • Create and distribute engaging content (articles, speeches, brochures and infographics, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the Natural Sciences Sector's communication team for the production and dissemination of content.
  • Communicate with Field Offices on communication for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation content.
  • Assist other work for the Unit as assigned.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a master's program or have recently obtained a master's degree or equivalent in communication, digital marketing, or other related fields. Previous work experience or knowledge in the field of disaster risk reduction is an asset.
  • Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. French (both oral and written) is an asset.
  • Experience in using digital communication platforms, such as website content management systems and social media platforms. Mastering of tools such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, and to perform well under pressure.

Period

The intern is expected to start the 6-month internship from December 2024 onsite.

Working Unit

The Disaster Risk Reduction Unit, Natural Sciences Sector, UNESCO. The candidate will be supervised by Mr Soichiro Yasukawa, Chief, SC/DRR, at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, France.
