Position information

This position will assist the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Red Cross with high level and strategic disaster management advice across all program areas, including strategic planning and operations. In particular the position is responsible for working in partnership with the PNG Red Cross to support their disaster management program to ensure that the program fulfils objectives and is administered at a standard acceptable to Australian Red Cross, PNG Red Cross, the PNG Government, and the program donor, AusAID.

The position is based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and is located in the premises of the Papua New Guinea Red Cross. Occasional travel to the provinces is also required.

Position requirements

To secure this role you will need to demonstrate:

* tertiary qualifications or post graduate studies in International Development or a related area
* proven experience in implementing disaster management, preparedness, response and mitigation programs
* proven experience in the area of organisational development and enhancing institutional capacity in a disaster management and preparedness context
* excellent verbal and written communication skills
* proven mentoring skills and an ability to adapt to the stages of mentoring from inception to exit
* proven experience and sensitivity when working in cross-cultural settings
* demonstrated success in operational and strategic planning
* knowledge and experience in key aspects of the project cycle from design (including capacity and risk assessments), planning, implementation, review, monitoring and evaluation
* proven ability in financial management. Higher level accountings skills well regarded
* proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
* computer literacy including the use of Microsoft Office
* understanding and commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement
